11月18日に発表されたEUにおける2023年の社会保障給付費総額は4,607億ユーロでした。このうち約半分（46.9%）は老齢・遺族給付に充てられており、次に疾病・医療給付が全体の29.6%を占めています。
日本では、国立社会保障・人口問題研究所が2025年7月29日に発表した報告書によると、2023年度の社会支出のうち最大の項目は「医療」で、全体の42.2%を占めています。次に「高齢者向け支出」が全体の35.3%を占めています。

The total expenditure on social protection benefits in the EU in 2023, which was announced on 18th November 2025, amounted to EUR4607 billion. Nearly half of this amount (46.9%) was allocated to old age and survivors’ functions. And secondly, sickness/health care function accounted for 29.6% of all benefits.
In the Japan, according to the report by National Institute of Population and Social Security Research, which was announced on 29th July 2025, the largest category of social expenditure in FY2023 was "medical care," accounting for 42.2% of the total. And secondly, "spending for the elderly" accounted for 35.3% of total social expenditure.
